OBE for Dr Debbie Cohen
Dr Debbie Cohen from MEDIC has been awarded an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours List 2012.
Dr Cohen is Senior Medical Research Fellow and deputy director of the centre for psychosocial and disability research at Cardiff University. She is also director of the individual support programme at Cardiff University providing assessment and remediation for doctors and medical students.
She graduated from the University of London and worked in general practice in Surrey, London, and in South Wales. During this time she was an Occupational Health Physician for Marks and Spencer and then for General Electric in South Wales.
Dr Cohen obtained her MD degree by research in 2008 and is a Fellow of the Royal College of General Practitioners, a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians of London and a Fellow of the Faculty of Occupational Medicine.
Dr Cohen is an expert in clinical issues related to health in the workplace and provides advice to Public Health Wales and the Welsh Government relating to clinical fitness to practice and on remediation.
Professor John Bligh, Dean of Medical Education at Cardiff University said:“This award recognises Dr Cohen’s outstanding contribution to the identification and remediation of health matters affecting clinicians in the workplace in Wales and more widely in the UK. Dr Cohen is an outstanding leader and role model and is playing a tremendous part in supporting medical students and doctors in Wales.”
