Open Days and Events
The School of Medicine holds several events each year in order for prospective students, applicants, teachers and careers advisors alike to gain a more in-depth understanding of both our medical courses and the facilities on offer. It is your opportunity to meet our students and teaching staff and ask any questions to help make up your mind about whether is Cardiff is right for you.
Medicine-Only Open Days
Every year we offer future medical students and their parents/guardians, teachers and careers advisors the chance to attend medicine-only Open Days. These have structured programmes of events letting you take an in-depth look at Medicine and the Cardiff course and providing detailed information on what you'll need to know and do to become - or to support - a doctor.
If you want to bring someone with you, we also provide a parallel programme tailored to what they will need to know - you won't spend the day together but you'll both have a great time.
We'll have a full and exciting day of activities planned for you but while this means there isn't time to see the residences, remember that these can be researched online or visited at University Open Days.
If you missed our June 2014 medicine-only days - or attended but would like to take a second look - you are welcome to visit the School of Medicine, exploring our course and our facilities, for as long as you like at one of our Cardiff University Open Days. Read on for more details.

University Open Days
Cathays Park and Heath Park Campuses
- Saturday 25th October (Cathays Campus only)
University Open Days give you a chance to find out more about studying in Cardiff. As well as taking a look at the University generally, including accommodation and Students' Union, you can find out about our MB BCh curriculum, get more details on applying to medicine and hear firsthand about life as a medical student in Cardiff.
We recommend that you attend an Open Day when you can, visit both our Cathays and Heath Park campuses to get the most out of your day: at the Cathays campus we offer talks on the medicine curriculum and our selection process plus a chance to talk with staff from the Admissions Team while a short bus trip up to the Heath Park Campus - taking you via the residences - gives you the opportunity to chat to current students, see clinical skills and simulation demonstrations, sit in on talks about life as a medical student and recent graduate, take part in a Q&A session, watch info DVDs (including talks on the Selection Process and Careers in Medicine from recent Open Days) and take a look around our Cochrane Building's state-of-the-art facilities. (A little tip: getting on an early bus lets you enjoy the Clinical Skills activities at Heath Park without the crowds.)
Unable to come to an Open Day?
It's unfortunate, because it's much easier to decide whether or not a Med School is right for you if you go there in person, but sometimes it's unavoidable. If you missed out on an Open Day, you may like to browse the videos and slides from some of the talks we've offered at previous Open Days. We have information from talks on our selection process, careers in Medicine, writing your personal statement and much more.
