Open Days and Events

The School of Medicine holds several events each year in order for prospective students, applicants, teachers and careers advisors alike to gain a more in-depth understanding of both our medical courses and the facilities on offer. It is your opportunity to meet some of the teaching staff and ask any questions to help make up your mind about whether is Cardiff is right for you.

Medicine-Only Open Days

  • Friday 27th June 2014
  • Saturday 28th June 2014

Just for future medical students, these offer a structured programme of events designed to let you take an in-depth look at Medicine and the Cardiff course plus what you'll need to know and do to become a doctor. Unlike a regular University Open Day, where you divide your time across all aspects of student life, at our Medicine-Only Open Days you will get a chance to focus in real depth on what it means to study medicine.

We also offer a separate programme allowing you to bring one parent, guardian, teacher or careers advisor (should you want to), which looks at how they can support you through the application process, throughout your time at med school and as a newly-qualified doctor. Teachers and careers advisors can also book a place to come in their own right, without a student.

These Open Days are identical single day events held two days in a row rather than being a two-day event so it won't matter which day you choose. Places are limited and we expect them to go quickly so, to ensure everyone has a fair chance to attend, we ask you to book for just one day.

University Open Days

Cathays Park and Heath Park Campuses

  • Friday 4th July 2014
  • Friday 12th September 2014
  • Saturday 25th October (Cathays Campus only)

University Open Days give you a chance to find out more about studying in Cardiff. As well as taking a look at the University generally, including accommodation and Students' Union, you can find out about our MB BCh curriculum, get more details on applying to medicine and hear firsthand about life as a medical student in Cardiff.

We recommend that you visit both our Cathays and Heath Park campuses to get the most out of your day: at the Cathays campus we offer talks on the medicine curriculum and our selection process plus a chance to talk with staff from the Admissions Team while a short bus trip up to the Heath Park Campus - taking you via the residences - gives you the opportunity to chat to current students, see clinical skills and simulation demonstrations, sit in on talks about life as a medical student and recent graduate, take part in a Q&A session, watch info DVDs (including talks on the Selection Process and Careers in Medicine from recent Open Days) and take a look around our Cochrane Building's state-of-the-art facilities. (A little tip: getting on an early bus lets you enjoy the Clinical Skills activities at Heath Park without the crowds.)

Unable to come to an Open Day?

It's unfortunate, because it's much easier to decide whether or not a Med School is right for you if you go there in person, but sometimes it's unavoidable. If you missed out on an Open Day, you may like to browse the videos and slides from some of the talks we've offered at previous Open Days. We have information from talks on our selection process, careers in Medicine, writing your personal statement and much more.
