Athena SWAN in the School of Medicine

Athena SWAN is a national charter recognising excellence in Science, Engineering and Technology in Higher Education through good employment practice for women.

This accreditation is being sought because Dame Sally Davies, chief scientific adviser for the Department of Health/NHS, announced that the National Institute for Health Research funding would require at least a silver award from the Athena SWAN Charter for Women in Science. This was reported last year by Times Higher Education.

As of the 25th of April 2013, the School of Medicine has been awarded an Athena SWAN Bronze Award.
